Malcolm has been swimming competitively since he was 11 when he started with a summer program in upstate New York called Delmar Dolfins (yes, they spell it with an "f"). He was a High School All-American in backstroke and relays, and a division I All-American and multiple year all-Ivy at Harvard College, and lived in the Pasadena area for 20 years working as a lecturer at Griffith Observatory, an engineer and test engineering manager at Beckman Instruments in Brea, and a masters swimmer and coach with Caltech-Pasadena Athletic Club masters since 1984. He moved to Maui in 1999-2000 where he has been swimming (and coaching) with Maui Masters Swim Club, been a swim coach for Maui Dolphins since 2001, head coach since 2002, head swim coach for Seabury Hall 2001-2, 2-3, & 3-4 (two time Maui News coach of the year), and a computer consultant working with Maui Pineapple from 2002-2005. At the 2002 USMS Nationals on Oahu, he won 5 firsts and one 3rd in the sprints. He is race director and helps timing with many ocean swims, and participates in weekly ocean swims with his friends around the island. |
